Tensions appear to be mounting behind the scenes at ABC News's "The View," a show known for its outspoken criticism of former President Donald Trump, who was once a guest on the program.
Recent reports suggest that the hosts are being urged to tone down their rhetoric against Trump, while the atmosphere on set is reportedly strained due to recent layoffs and cost-cutting measures.
According to the New York Post, the show's executive producer, Brian Teta, has allegedly advised the co-hostsWhoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarroto ease up on Trump-related commentary as the 47th president prepares to assume office.
This guidance comes after a November incident where the hosts had to issue four legal disclaimers during a discussion about allegations against Trump's cabinet nominees. However, a source has reportedly refuted claims that the hosts have been instructed to moderate their rhetoric, emphasizing that the show's popularity stems from the hosts' candidness.
The morale among the show's staff has reportedly taken a hit following the layoff of nine employees. An insider conveyed to the outlet that "morale is low," reflecting the unease among the team. Despite these challenges, the show continues to draw attention for its forthright discussions, as demonstrated by Joy Behar's remarks during a January episode.
Behar commented on the 2024 presidential election, stating, "I just want to say, this is not a normal inauguration. This is not a normal person. Hes a convicted felon. Why do they go as if this is a normal inauguration? Its not," further asserting, "This is not a normal election."
"The View" has a history with Trump, having hosted him in 2011. During his appearance, Barbara Walters expressed the show's pleasure in having him as a guest, remarking, "Whenever youre on with us were very happy." As the show navigates its current challenges, it remains to be seen how the dynamics will evolve in light of the reported internal pressures and external scrutiny.
