Radio personality Charlamagne Tha God has taken a firm stance against Democratic Governor Janet Mills of Maine, criticizing her continued support for allowing transgender biological male athletes to compete in female sports.
This contentious issue has sparked debate across the nation, with Charlamagne voicing his concerns on his show, "The Breakfast Club," arguing that the topic is politically detrimental.
According to the Daily Caller, President Donald Trump confronted Governor Mills on this matter during a White House meeting. The president questioned whether Mills would comply with his executive order issued on February 5, which addresses the participation of transgender athletes in sports.
Charlamagne expressed his bewilderment at the ongoing discussion, stating, Why are folks still talking about trans athletes? Like that is a losing talking point. Americas not with it, and they keep making a micro a macro with that conversation. He further emphasized the limited impact of the issue, noting, It impacts such a small, small group of people, but it makes a whole lot of people think folks lack common sense, so why are they even having that conversation?
Charlamagne's critique extends to states that persist in supporting such policies, questioning their rationale given the low percentage of transgender athletes. And I cant believe its states that still want to die on that hill, he remarked. Like none of these states have a high percentage of trans athletes, so whats the issue?
During the White House exchange, Trump pressed Mills on her stance, to which she responded that she would adhere to both state and federal law. Trump retorted, Well, we are the federal law You better do it because youre not going to get any federal funding at all if you dont. Mills replied, Well see you in court, with Trump countering, Good! Ill see you in court. I look forward to that. That should be a really easy one.
The president also predicted that Mills position could jeopardize her political future, stating, Enjoy your life after governor, because I dont think youll be in elected politics. Meanwhile, the Maine Principals Association declared on February 7 that biological men would continue to be allowed to compete in womens sports.
In response, the Department of Education initiated a Title IX investigation into Maines education department and a school district for allegedly violating the executive order. A January New York Times/Ipsos poll revealed that nearly 80% of Americans oppose the participation of biological males in womens sports, highlighting the widespread public sentiment on this divisive issue.
