Renowned liberal author Stephen King has made a dramatic return to the social media platform X, despite his earlier vow to abandon what he described as its "toxic" environment.
King, known for his outspoken political views, re-emerged with a provocative message directed at President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. "Im baaaack! Did you miss me?" he inquired of his nearly 7 million followers. Musk, the billionaire owner of X, responded with a lighthearted, "I did [to be honest]," accompanied by a smiling emoji.
As reported by Fox News, King's reappearance on X was marked by a scathing critique of both Trump and Musk, who has been leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the second Trump administration. King did not mince words, declaring, "Just wanted to say that Trump is a traitorous, Putin-loving dips---! Goes double for Elon!"
This return comes after King announced his departure from the platform following the previous presidential election, citing its increasingly "toxic" atmosphere. "I'm leaving Twitter. Tried to stay, but the atmosphere has just become too toxic. Follow me on Threads, if you like," he wrote in November, promoting his presence on Meta's competing platform.
King's re-engagement with X coincides with the release of "The Monkey," a horror film adaptation of his 1980 short story. While representatives for King have not commented on the timing, it raises questions about whether his return is linked to the film's promotion.
A vocal critic of Trump and the Republican Party, King has previously called for Trump's impeachment and likened his policies to scenes from his own horror novels. Additionally, King has clashed with Musk over issues such as X's blue check verification and financial aid to Ukraine.
