McConnell Breaks Ranks And Delivers SCATHING Trump Rant!

In a surprising move, former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) emerged as the sole Republican senator to oppose the confirmation of former Representative Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence under President Donald Trump.

Just hours before casting his dissenting vote, McConnell took to the Courier-Journal to deliver a scathing critique of the president's economic strategy, particularly focusing on the use of tariffs.

According to Raw Story, McConnell's column in the Kentucky publication was a comprehensive denunciation of Trump's tariff policies. The seasoned GOP leader argued that such measures would not alleviate America's economic challenges but instead exacerbate them. "No matter our best intentions, tariffs are bad policy," McConnell asserted, emphasizing the potential adverse effects on both local and national economies.

McConnell highlighted the potential repercussions of broad-based tariffs on Kentucky's economy, which is deeply intertwined with international trade. He pointed out the state's reliance on global markets, noting, "Broad-based tariffs could have long-term consequences right in our backyard. Consider our states 75,000 family farms that sell their crops around the globe, or the hardworking Kentuckians who craft 95% of the worlds bourbon, or our auto industry that relies on global supply chains to support the livelihoods of thousands of workers in the commonwealth."

He further warned that the President's tariffs could impose an additional financial burden on Kentuckians, estimating a cost of up to $1,200 per year for the average resident.

The senator also underscored the significance of international businesses in Kentucky, stating, "In Kentucky, over 60% of all counties are home to at least one international business. These are industrial suppliers, auto manufacturers and makers of consumer goods from across the world that support roughly 100,000 jobs in the commonwealth." McConnell's remarks reflect a broader conservative perspective that champions free-market principles and cautions against government interventions that could disrupt economic stability.

In his critique, McConnell addressed Trump's confrontational stance towards U.S. allies, arguing for a more collaborative approach to trade. "But preserving the long-term prosperity of American industry and workers requires working with our allies, not against them. Trade wars with our partners hurt working people most. And the President has better tools to protect American workers without forcing our families and businesses to absorb higher costs," he wrote. McConnell's comments underscore the importance of maintaining strong international partnerships to ensure economic growth and stability.
