The Pentagon says that the online leak of some Top Secret documents equates to a complete nightmare for the United States.
The New York Times reports that over 100 Top Secret documents were leaked across social media recently in a massive security breach.
The Post Millennial noted some documents related to national security secrets associated with Ukraine, the Middle East, and China. The leak of these secret documents made them available on Twitter, Telegram, and other social media websites. This leak created a headache for national security experts and the United States military complex.
One senior intelligence official described the leak of the top secret documents as a disaster for the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. All these countries share intelligence, and all can potentially suffer from the leak of these documents.
There needs to be more clarity about how many of the leaked documents are authentic and how many might have been doctored or altered. Someone heavily edited some of the papers in specific ways. One such image within the leak showed a higher causality rate for Ukrainian troops and a lower estimated rate for the Russian forces compared to more reputable sources.
One Russian blogger claims this leak is simply a Western attempt to mislead the Russian military and alter the course of the combat between itself and Ukraine.
Ukraine Commander Lt. Col. Yurii Bereza noted how important it is to have the right kind of information related to what is going on on the battlefield. He said:
We are at a state of the war when the information war is sometimes even more important than the direct physical clashes at the front.
Regarding all the misinformation, he stated, We can no longer determine where is the truth and where is the lie.
Former senior Pentagon Official Mick Mulroy noted, There are a lot of examples of leaked documents [being] used in propaganda campaigns.
The United States is concerned about slides within the leaked documents that discuss sensitive information related to China and other parts of the world militarily. Therefore, the amount of data that is now out to the public is terrifying and potentially damaging at the same time.
Leaks of this nature could genuinely change the real impact of military actions. They can be far more damaging than they appear at first blush.
