A Californian family is exceptionally thankful for modern technology after the theft of an e-bike that cost about $3,000.
Johnny Ehrman depends on the electronic bike to get back and forth to work and uses it for miles daily. The news that it had been stolen was heartbreaking.
According to Fox News, I drive 12 miles a day, Ehrman told FOX 11, Los Angeles. I was sobbing outside my workplace. I had some of my coworkers be like, Whats happening? Where is your bike?
She took precautions so she didnt encourage theft. The pedals and wheels were locked in place. Ehrman even took out the battery. However, the bike wasnt chained to a fixed structure to prevent someone from carrying it off. Thankfully, Ehrman placed an Apple AirTag on the bike.
After realizing the bike was stolen, Ehrman contacted David, her father. First, they called the authorities. Then, they quickly used the AirTag to track down the bike, which was still moving.
Fox News says, David tracked the e-bike until it stopped at an apartment near the familys Orange County home. After he went to the exact location of the e-bike, he had a brief confrontation with the man who attempted to steal his daughters e-bike.
David said the man appeared shocked when he appeared on his doorstep. He says he thought the man was surprised that he found him and his daughters bike.
Orange County police have not released the name of the person that allegedly stole the electronic bike. The police department did release a statement saying that people should not try to recover their items if they are stolen. Fox says, As much as the convenience of technology plays a vital role in the quality of our lives, we want to remind our communities to utilize their local law enforcement services when theyve been victimized by a crime instead of placing themselves into harms way, the spokesperson said.
