In a shocking turn of events, Tiffany Henyard, the Democratic mayor of Dolton, Illinois, and supervisor of the neighboring Thornton Township, found herself embroiled in a heated altercation during a community meeting on Tuesday.
The incident, which quickly spiraled into a full-blown brawl, was captured on video and subsequently shared on social media platforms.
According to RedState, the situation escalated when a local activist launched a verbal attack on Mayor Henyard, deriding her as a "half-a**ed mayor" and accusing her of leveraging personal relationships to ascend to her position of power. The activist concluded his tirade with a dismissive, "You gone, b***h."
In response to the inflammatory remarks, Kamal Woods, Henyard's boyfriend, confronted the activist, sparking a physical confrontation. The mayor herself was seen rushing into the fray. Eyewitnesses reported that Henyard's wig was dislodged during the melee, with her distinctive orange hair serving as a visual identifier in the video footage.
The aftermath of the brawl saw at least one participant flashing gang signs as security personnel escorted him out of the room. The incident left residents in a state of shock, particularly due to Henyard's direct involvement. "It was one thing when the guys were fighting, but when she jumped in it, I was taken aback. I was floored," a resident shared with ABC 7. Another attendee expressed concern over Henyard's wellbeing, suggesting she might have sustained an injury after hitting her head on a table.
However, this is not the first time Mayor Henyard has been at the center of controversy. She has previously faced allegations of misusing taxpayer funds for personal expenses and failing to provide a detailed account of the charges. Accusations also include the misuse of police resources to target businesses in acts of retaliation.
Interestingly, the former Chicago mayor, Lori Lightfoot, was tasked with investigating Henyard's alleged misconduct. The eruption of anger at the community meeting occurred just a day after Lightfoot released her findings.
Lightfoot's investigation uncovered damning evidence against Henyard. Fox News reported that the investigation revealed "hundreds of thousands of (dollars) which went missing without receipts." The report also implicated Henyard in the misuse of city credit cards for personal leisure, including two extravagant trips to Las Vegas in 2022 and 2023. The report stated, "There is no evidence that any business development opportunities came to the village as a result of either of these two trips."
The investigation further revealed that the city had mismanaged $3 million in payments, with over $171,000 spent on travel-related expenses, over $50,000 at local restaurants, and an additional $218,000 on Amazon purchases.
Despite the controversies and allegations, Henyard is seeking re-election, aiming to secure the Democratic Party nomination for Dolton mayor in the upcoming February elections. The recent brawl and the damning findings of Lightfoot's investigation raise serious questions about her suitability for public office and her commitment to upholding the values of transparency, integrity, and responsible governance.
