Dr. Phil McGraw has taken a bold stance on the contentious issue of sanctuary cities and their relationship with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Just before accompanying officers on deportation raids in Chicago, a city known for its sanctuary policies, Dr. Phil advocated for these cities to grant ICE access to illegal migrants. His argument centers on the notion that such cooperation would allow for deportations to occur "in complete safety" within a "controlled environment."
As reported by Mediaite, President Donald Trump's administration, under the guidance of border czar Tom Homan, is set to initiate nationwide deportation raids targeting illegal migrants. This initiative will leverage the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, aiming to deport millions. Dr. Phil's involvement with ICE and Homan in Chicago underscores the high-stakes nature of these operations. "Its a pretty high-risk mission that were going on," Dr. Phil remarked in a video documenting the experience.
Dr. Phil further elaborated on the challenges ICE faces due to resistance from sanctuary cities. He noted, "The problem that we have with some of the pushback that ICE has been getting from sanctuary cities is theyre saying, no, we dont want to cooperate with you." He highlighted the potential dangers of conducting raids in uncontrolled environments, such as residential areas, where civilians could be at risk. "If they resist, if if they open fire on these agents, you have to return fire. Then people can get caught in the crossfire," he explained, emphasizing the safety benefits of detaining individuals within jails.
The debate over sanctuary cities and their policies remains a polarizing issue in the United States. Proponents argue that these policies protect immigrant communities and foster trust between residents and local law enforcement. Critics, however, contend that they undermine federal immigration laws and pose safety risks.
Dr. Phil's perspective aligns with the latter, advocating for a more cooperative approach between sanctuary cities and ICE to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law. His firsthand experience with ICE operations in Chicago sheds light on the complexities and potential hazards of immigration enforcement in urban settings.
