According to Fox Business, former U.
S. Secretary of Education Bill Bennett has sounded the alert about young people and their lack of interest in work.
Bennet says young people need an attitude adjustment about what it means to work. Otherwise, the outlook for the future is grim.
On Thursdays Kudlow show, Bennet said, A man who has missed the pleasure of work, the job well done and finished, has missed one of the great pleasures life has to offer. He continued, Im not concerned so much about the rich not working so much as long as theyre keeping that economy moving, but I am concerned about the young.
The concern stems from a recent analysis by Bloomberg that shows the workforce in the U.S. is down by 2.4 million people. The analysis also showed young educated men and over-achievers, also called workaholics, have cut back on their time at work by three hours per week compared to the hours worked before the 2019 COVID-19 pandemic.
Bennet was asked what he thought was the reason young people arent taking the role of working seriously. He replied there were a couple of reasons todays younger generation arent engaged as much in the workforce.
He cited his reasons as, One, we havent talked to them about the value of work, we havent taught them. And I dont know, are parents talking to their kids about work and why they work and how important it is? Im not so sure. Plus, the schools are certainly not doing that. The young peoples attitude toward work is kind of like their attitude toward most of what adults do these days: theyre not in favor.
Kudlow and Bennett discussed how the lack of work attitude might affect upcoming elections. Bennett criticized some for being too optimistic about the impact those in the millennial and GenZ groups will have on politics and the economy.
Bennett told Kudlow, 80 percent of the young people voted for this radical leftist. And I think you see these kinds of numbers around the country from young people: 60, 70 percent are fairly strong Democratic. You and I have talked before about how they tend to prefer socialism to capitalism. This will matter in the polls. He added Republicans would need to step up and offer a good response for the younger generations who put social issues as a priority.
Look what happened here in COVID. People got checks for not working, they get used to it, and they want it to continue.
