A man from Oregon has been condemned to life imprisonment after a federal jury found him guilty of a series of crimes, including kidnapping, transportation for illicit sexual activity, unlawful firearm possession, and an attempt to evade custody.

Negasi Zuberi, 31, was handed down the life sentence last Friday, following his conviction in October 2023.

According to The Post Millennial, court documents disclosed that Zuberi, under the pretense of soliciting prostitution, ensnared a woman in Seattle in July 2023. Masquerading as an undercover cop, he brandished a badge, threatened her with a taser, and immobilized her with handcuffs and leg irons. He subsequently transported her hundreds of miles to his Oregon residence, where he confined her in a cinder block cell within his garage. The woman managed to escape by breaking the door and fleeing. Zuberi was later captured in Nevada after absconding from Oregon.

An anonymous victim at the hearing expressed her disdain for Zuberi, stating, This is not a man who deserves to be around others. He shows blatant disregard and lack of care for human life.

Zuberi was also connected to another incident in May 2023, where he similarly abducted a woman outside a Klamath Falls bar. He threatened her with a taser, handcuffed her, and forced her into his vehicle before sexually assaulting her.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Sweet characterized Zuberi as a serial predator during the sentencing. Negasi Zuberi is a serial predator who committed acts of evil. He hunted women, Sweet declared.

Despite the mounting evidence against him, Zuberi maintained his innocence throughout the trial, pleading not guilty and forgoing his right to testify. On the concluding day of the trial, his attempt to take the stand was rebuffed. He was ultimately found guilty on all charges, which included an attempt to escape custody while awaiting trial.
