Air Force veteran and Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, a seasoned voice on the subject of women in the military, recently addressed a widely circulated misconception about President Trump's nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth.
Luna sought to clarify Hegseth's stance on women serving in the military during his confirmation hearing.
"Pete never said that he didn't want women to serve in the military. In fact, its quite the opposite, Luna stated in a conversation with Glenn Beck on "The Glenn Beck Program," as reported by The Blaze. Luna did, however, express her belief that "there are certain roles that women should not be subjected to in the military."
Luna went on to explain her viewpoint, stating, I preface this by saying that when women were placed in harms way, that the natural instinct for men was to protect that woman. And thats quote-unquote toxic masculinity that the left tries to attack us with all the time. Beck agreed with Luna's sentiment, affirming, That is human nature. We are born with that.
Luna further elaborated on the potential complications of having women in certain military roles. She posited a hypothetical scenario where a woman on a special forces team is injured, suggesting that the male team members' instinct to protect her could lead to more casualties and jeopardize the mission's success.
Luna also addressed the criticism directed at Hegseth, stating, Thats what Pete was saying, but you know, its very easy, because Pete is a white male, for them to try to demonize him and paint him as this anti-woman, you know, alcoholic womanizer, which is simply not the case.
Beck echoed Luna's sentiments, stating, I have no problem with women in the military, with the exception of the natural order of things. He went on to express his concern about the potential capture of a female team member, stating, Its different if I know that the woman member of our team has just been captured. It takes on a different meaning to me, because I know whats going to happen to her in comparison to Tom or Tim, and I think that is a natural instinct.
