The renowned ice cream manufacturer, Ben and Jerry's, known for its leftist leanings, is mobilizing a direct action dubbed "against fascism" in response to the impending inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
The "People's March" is scheduled for January 18 in Washington, DC, with parallel events planned across the nation. The company has been actively encouraging its patrons to voice their dissent and participate in the protest.
"Power to the people! On January 18, we're joining the People's March in Washington, DC (and beyond!) to send an urgent message to the incoming administration: You work for the people, and we're here to hold you accountable," Ben and Jerry's stated. "Together, we will fight for our rights and our future, and defend our freedoms against fascism. It is our right to protest and safely dissent policies and practices that do not represent our beliefs - regardless of who is in power. We are more united than we are divided. Let's make sure they know it!" As reported by The Post Millennial, the company's newsletter, which included this statement, also provided a link for customers to RSVP.
Ben and Jerry's has a track record of endorsing progressive leftist causes. This was evident during the notorious 2020 "defund the police" movement, where the company provided sustenance to protestors during the tumultuous CHAZ occupation in Seattle. The company's website features a section dedicated to progressive activism. Social media posts reveal that Ben and Jerry's funded billboards in several states promoting support for transgender youth.
The company's website declares, "We have a progressive, nonpartisan social mission that seeks to meet human needs and eliminate injustices in our local, national, and international communities by integrating these concerns in our day-to-day business activities." A review of its "progressive values" indicates the company's opposition to capitalism, law enforcement, and fossil fuels. Furthermore, Ben and Jerry's has publicly supported social causes such as racial justice, rights for illegal immigrants, sex changes for minors, and climate justice.
The inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump is set to occur in the nation's capital on January 20, preceded by a "victory" rally the day before. The stance of Ben and Jerry's and its call for a "People's March" underscores the tension and division that the incoming administration will need to navigate.
