In a recent development, President-Elect Donald Trump has appointed Tammy Bruce, a former Fox News veteran and an ex-liberal, to serve as the spokesperson for the State Department.
Bruce, who once hosted Fox Nation and contributed to the Fox News Channel, is set to work under Florida Senator Marco Rubio, pending his Senate confirmation. This move marks the latest in a series of appointments from the Fox network to the incoming administration.
According to the Daily Mail, the list of Fox alumni joining the Trump administration includes Pete Hegseth, the Defense Secretary nominee, Tom Homan, the border 'czar', Michael Waltz, the national security advisor, Mike Huckabee, the Israel ambassador nominee, Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence hopeful, Pam Bondi, the potential Attorney General, among others.
Bruce, like many of her future colleagues, has a history of making controversial statements that have not only upset liberals but also her future superior, Rubio. Between 2014 and 2016, Bruce was a vocal critic of Rubio during his tenure in the Senate and his unsuccessful bid for the presidency. She once tweeted, "Another inexperienced senator who's never run a thing in his life? Pass." During the 2016 Republican Primary debates, she referred to Rubio as a "kid waving frantically in the back of room trying to prove relevance." She also criticized him for collaborating with Democrats like Chuck Schumer on the failed 'Gang of Eight' immigration bill, even stating in 2016 that she had to "mute Marco." These anti-Rubio tweets were first discovered by Politico.
However, Bruce reserves most of her criticism for the Democratic Party and 'woke' liberal activists. In 2021, she sparked outrage by claiming that Democrats were proposing funding for research on mutant, human-animal hybrids. "Chimeric research is Pandora's box, that's obviously from hell, that should not be opened," she said. "But the scientific community, spurred on by their own hubris, may very well open it, using American taxpayer dollars. And if that happens the Democrats will have blood on their hands for not joining the GOP and stopping it when they had a chance."
Trump announced Bruce's appointment on Truth Social, stating, "It is my great honor to announce that Tammy Bruce will be joining our incredible Nominee for United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, as Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State." He praised Bruce for her two-decade-long service as a news contributor and for her transition from a liberal activist to a strong conservative voice on radio and television.
Bruce, who once served as the president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women, was censured by NOW for leading protests against the 1995 acquittal of OJ Simpson. A spokesperson for Fox News told DailyMail.com, "Tammy Bruce has been an extremely valued contributor at FOX News Media for nearly 20 years and we wish her all the best in her new role."
Trump's administration is gradually taking shape, with Steven Cheung named as his communications director and Karoline Leavitt as White House Press Secretary. Rubio, once derided by Trump as 'Little Marco,' has evolved from a heated campaign rival to a key figure in the Cabinet. The Florida senator, known for his hardline stance on China, Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba, will lead Trump's prowess on the world stage as his Secretary of State.
Rubio, a foreign policy hawk, currently serves as the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee and was considered for vice president earlier this year. As Secretary of State, he will play a crucial role in urging Ukraine to find a resolution to its longstanding conflict with Russia. In 2019, Rubio successfully pushed Trump to impose harsh sanctions against Venezuela in an attempt to oust its authoritarian president, Nicols Maduro.
Trump's second term as president is being shaped by the loyal allies who stood by him during his four years outside the White House. As the countdown to his inauguration on January 20 begins, Republicans are vying for a cabinet spot or a senior role in the West Wing. The president-elect has already made some surprising nominations, including Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy as co-heads of the 'Department of Government Efficiency', and John Ratcliffe as Director of the CIA.
However, Trump's nomination of former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz as his Attorney General sent shockwaves through the Republican Party. Gaetz was forced to withdraw amid an alleged underage sex scandal, and Trump subsequently nominated former Florida AG Pam Bondi as his new pick. Trump has also nominated former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, who infuriated critics with claims about 'biolabs' in Ukraine, to be Director of National Intelligence. His choice of military veteran and Fox News host Pete Hegseth to run the Defense Department has also been criticized due to Hegseth's lack of experience managing large-scale operations and allegations of a past sex assault.
Perhaps the most surprising announcement was the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be secretary of Health & Human Services. As Trump's second term takes shape, the focus remains on his loyal allies and their roles in shaping the future of the administration.
