In a recent development, South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) has publicly criticized Trey Gowdy, a former Congressman from the same state and current Fox News contributor.
This came in response to Gowdy's critique of her voting record on the government funding bill, which he voiced during his appearance on Bret Baiers Special Report.
According to the Gateway Pundit, Gowdy was part of Baiers panel discussion as the House voted on the American Relief Act of 2024. During the discussion, Gowdy expressed his disapproval of the House Republicans' decision to remove Kevin McCarthy, and criticized both Matt Gaetz, former Trump Attorney General Nominee, for leading the effort to oust McCarthy, and Nancy Mace for voting against the bill.
Gowdy was quoted saying, "Its not Mike Johnsons fault. I mean, hes got a dysfunctional family. Mike Johnson is not dysfunctional, but several of his family members happen to be. They never should have gotten rid of Kevin, Bret. I mean, this all goes back to what was your plan when you got rid of McCarthy? They said they were going to cut spending. They said they were going to do this." He further added, "Nancy Mace would not be in the House if it werent for Donald Trump, and she cant vote the way that he asked her to today? I hope hes got as long a memory for House members as he does Senators that even threaten to not support one of his nominees."
This is not the first time Gowdy has faced backlash for his comments. Previously, he was criticized by the Federalists Molly Hemmingway on Baers Special Report after he called Gaetzs Attorney General nomination dumbfounding and smeared Gaetz as corrupt.
Mace, however, did not let Gowdy's recent comments pass without a response. "You let Hillary Clinton off the hook for Benghazi. Sit your ass back down," Mace retorted on X. Gowdy, who once chaired the House committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi terror attack, was criticized for failing to hold Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accountable for her actions during the incident.
Mace, who recently gained attention for her successful campaign to keep biological men out of women's restrooms on Capitol Hill, also took a jab at Gowdy on X, asking, "Which bathroom do we think Trey Gowdy uses?" This was accompanied by a photo of Gowdy, who bears a resemblance to Megan Rapinoe, a controversial figure in American soccer.
Mace was among the 38 Republicans and Trump allies who voted against the Trump-backed government funding bill on Thursday. During her appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime, she explained her decision, stating, "the CR tonight spent the same exact amount of money today as it did in the one yesterday." She added, "I don't want to continue Joe Biden levels of spending months into Trump's presidency."
As the dust settles on this recent political skirmish, it is clear that the conservative values of limited government spending and individual freedom continue to guide the decisions of representatives like Mace. Her refusal to support a bill that she believes perpetuates excessive spending is a testament to her commitment to these principles.
