In a surprising turn of events, the residence of Los Angeles' Deputy Mayor was subjected to an FBI raid on Tuesday.
The official, now on leave, stands accused of orchestrating a bomb threat against his own city hall in September, as reported by FOX 11 in Los Angeles.
According to The Post Millennial, the FBI's search did not result in any arrests. However, the following day, LA Mayor Karen Bass's office announced that Deputy Mayor Brian Williams had been placed on administrative leave. Zach Seidl, LA's deputy mayor of communications, confirmed this in a statement. "The Mayor's Office was notified that the FBI searched the home of Deputy Mayor Brian Williams yesterday as part of an investigation into a bomb threat he allegedly made against City Hall earlier this year," Seidl said. "He was immediately placed on administrative leave. The Mayor takes this matter very seriously."
Seidl further explained that the city had reported the bomb threat to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), which conducted an initial investigation. The LAPD found no immediate danger to the building and subsequently handed the case over to the FBI for further scrutiny.
The LAPD expressed their belief that Williams was likely the "source of the threat." The statement read: "Due to the departments working relationship with Mr. Williams, the investigation was referred to the FBI. The FBI remains the investigating agency."
The FBI has yet to disclose any details about its ongoing investigation or any findings from the search of Williams' residence. Williams, who has been serving in the mayor's office since March 2023, holds a significant liaison role with the LAPD, the LA Fire Department, and other emergency preparedness and safety departments in city hall. Prior to his role as deputy mayor, Williams spent seven years as the executive director of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission.
In the midst of this controversy, Mayor Bass has vowed to transform LA into a sanctuary city before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. Newly appointed LAPD Chief Jim McConnell has stated that his officers will not comply with Trump's proposed mass deportations of illegal immigrants once he assumes office. This stance aligns with the conservative viewpoint of limited government interference and upholding individual freedom.
