The official mugshot of Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old man facing a slew of charges, has been released by authorities.

The charges, which include illegal gun possession, are linked to the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. However, Mangione has not been charged with murder at this point.

As reported by Gateway Pundit, Mangione was apprehended on Monday at a McDonald's outlet in Altoona, Pennsylvania. An alert employee, recognizing him from widely disseminated images, promptly notified the police. Upon his arrest, Mangione was found to be in possession of a 3D-printed ghost gun, a firearm assembled from parts procured online, equipped with a silencer. He also had multiple counterfeit identifications and a handwritten manifesto that criticized the health insurance industry.

New York City Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch informed reporters on Monday, "Responding officers questioned the suspect, who was acting suspiciously and carrying multiple fraudulent IDs as well as a U.S. passport. Upon further investigation, officers recovered a firearm on his person, as well as a suppressor, both consistent with the weapon used in the murder."

According to court documents, Mangione was seated at a table in the back of the McDonald's, donning a blue medical mask and engrossed in a laptop. A customer spotted him, and an employee dialed 911, said Kaz Daughtry, an NYPD deputy commissioner. Altoona Police Officer Tyler Frye and his partner identified the suspect immediately when he lowered his mask. "We just didnt think twice about it. We knew that was our guy," Frye stated.

Court records reveal that when asked if he had recently visited New York, Mangione "became quiet and started to shake." A search of his backpack led to the discovery of a black, 3D-printed pistol and a 3D-printed black silencer. The pistol featured a metal slide and plastic handle with a metal threaded barrel. He was taken into custody around 9:15 a.m.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated, "He is believed to be our person of interest in the brazen, targeted murder of Brian Thompson." Tisch also noted that Mangione had clothing and a mask similar to those worn by the shooter and a counterfeit New Jersey ID matching one the suspect used to check into a New York City hostel before the shooting.

Mangione was first seen in police custody when he was brought into a courthouse in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. During a brief court hearing in Pennsylvania, Mangione was arraigned and ordered to be held without bail. When asked if he needed a public defender, he requested to "answer that at a future date."

The charges against Mangione, as per The U.S. Sun, include forgery, carrying a gun without a license, providing false identification to law enforcement authorities, and tampering with records or identification. Later in the day, prosecutors charged Mangione with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

According to AP, "The gunman concealed his identity with a mask during the shooting yet left a trail of evidence, including a backpack he ditched in Central Park, a cellphone found in a pedestrian plaza and a water bottle and protein bar wrapper that police say he bought at Starbucks minutes before the attack."

As this story continues to unfold, the question remains: what drove Mangione to allegedly commit such a heinous act? And how will this incident impact the ongoing debate about gun control and the availability of 3D-printed firearms? Only time will tell.
