Lara Trump, the co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has declared her intention to step down from her position.
She made this announcement after stating that the three primary objectives she had set for her tenure had been successfully achieved. "With that big win, I kind of feel like my time is up," she expressed. "What I intended to do has been done."
According to Fox News, Lara Trump embarked on her journey as the co-chair of the RNC in March 2024. Her tenure was marked by the Republicans regaining control of the Senate and maintaining a slim majority in the House. Her leadership role in the RNC coincided with the return of her father-in-law, President-elect Donald Trump, to the White House, sparking speculation about her future political aspirations.
Rumors have been circulating that Lara Trump could be a potential candidate to replace Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. The latter is expected to be appointed as the next Secretary of State under the incoming Trump administration. In a previous conversation with Fox News' Sean Hannity, Lara Trump expressed her willingness to serve the people of Florida and showed interest in considering the senatorial seat if offered.
In a recent discussion with Howard Kurtz, she expressed her gratitude for the potential opportunity. "Certainly, weve all had the opportunity over the past nine years to fully involve ourselves in politics, to understand the American people, what they want, and weve all been residents of the state of Florida now for over three years," she stated. "If thats something thats put in front of me, it would be a true honor."
Maye Musk, mother of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, is among those advocating for Lara Trump to succeed Rubio. She took to social media to express her support, stating, "The Senate is an old mans club. We desperately need a smart, young, outspoken woman who will reveal their secrets." Elon Musk echoed his mother's sentiments, endorsing Lara Trump as "genuinely great."
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also expressed his enthusiasm for the potential appointment, stating on "Hannity" that he "would be like over-the-top excited" and that Republicans "could not do better than Lara Trump."
The final decision on Rubio's replacement lies with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is also reportedly being considered to replace Pete Hegseth. Meanwhile, Michael Whatley will continue to serve as the RNC chairman.
