In a recent revelation, former Secret Service agent Richard Staropoli expressed grave concerns about the security of President-elect Donald Trump, suggesting that the President-elect could be at risk of an attack that the current Secret Service may not be equipped to thwart.
According to the Daily Caller, Staropoli's warning comes in the wake of two assassination attempts on Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign. One of these attempts involved a 20-year-old, Thomas Matthew Crooks, who managed to position himself within rifle range of Trump by scaling a building near his rally. Staropoli, during his appearance on "America Reports," hinted at the possibility of Trump facing a threat "of a much bigger magnitude" than Crooks before his inauguration in January.
"The Secret Service that you see out there today is not the Secret Service of yesteryear. Somewhere along the line theyve completely dropped the ball. That testimony that you saw today was purely a smokescreen to cover up the shortcomings of a politically compromised agency. It should never have gotten to that point," Staropoli stated. He further criticized the agency's focus on drones and UAVs, emphasizing the need to return to the basics of human intelligence and manpower on the streets to ensure the President's safety.
Staropoli expressed his apprehension, saying, "I dont think Id be alone in saying that I certainly can see something happening between now and inauguration day. And its not going to be some 20-year-old kid on the roof of a building thats allowed to get within 100 yards. Its going to be something of a much bigger magnitude and I dont think the Secret Service is anywhere equipped to handle that situation.
Meanwhile, a heated exchange occurred during a Thursday hearing held by the Houses Task Force on Trump Assassination Attempts. Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe and Republican Rep. Pat Fallon of Texas engaged in a verbal altercation over Rowe's presence at a 9/11 memorial event.
Fallon questioned Rowe's role in President Joe Bidens detail at the event, following Rowe's assertion that the head of the presidents Secret Service detail is usually the closest to the president. Rowe responded, "Actually, congressman, what youre not seeing is the [Special Agent in Charge] of the detail off out of the pictures view, and that is the day where we remember the more than 3,000 people that died on 9/11. I actually responded to Ground Zero. I was there going through the ashes at the World Trade Center. I was there for rescues.
Fallon retorted, "Im not asking you that!" leading to a heated exchange. Rowe admonished, "Do not invoke 9/11 for political purposes!" to which Fallon responded, "No, Im not!"
This incident, coupled with Staropoli's warning, underscores the pressing need for a thorough review and potential overhaul of the Secret Service's current practices. The safety of the President-elect, and indeed the stability of the nation, may well depend on it.
