In a chilling development, a man with a history of four felony convictions has been apprehended in relation to a series of nine shootings that have terrorized Seattle since October 6.
Khalif Kameau Myles, a 27-year-old, was taken into custody by Seattle law enforcement on November 23. According to King County Jail records, Myles is currently being held on a bail of $500,000.
As reported by The Post Millennial, Myles is facing a litany of felony charges, including two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. His charges extend to drive-by shooting, along with other assault and weapons-related offenses, as revealed by court documents.
Detectives from the Seattle police department have linked Myles to at least nine shootings that have occurred in the city since early October. One of these incidents involved a near-miss where a bullet narrowly avoided a 3-year-old child. The victims seemed to have been chosen randomly, and the firearm used in the shootings was reported to be stolen, according to Komo News.
Court documents reveal that Myles allegedly "senselessly shot" at two occupied vehicles within a span of one month. On November 7, Myles reportedly fired 12 rounds at another vehicle while driving a stolen car in the Wedgwood neighborhood. One of these bullets hit the headrest of a 3-year-old child's booster seat, causing the child to suffer from red abrasions on his cheek and face as his father tried to escape from Myles.
Ballistics experts analyzed the evidence found at the scene of the shooting and concluded that the firearm used in the November 7 incident was the same one used in a shooting that took place almost a month earlier. On October 13, a man reported being parked at a Papa John's restaurant in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle when a car pulled up behind him. The man claimed that he saw Myles, who was wearing a dark hoodie, approach his vehicle with a gun. Witnesses reported that Myles fired up to eight shots, three of which hit the man's vehicle. Fortunately, the man was not injured.
King County prosecutor Douglas Wagoner expressed his relief at the lack of fatalities, stating, "It is truly lucky that nobody was harmed. You could say it was potentially miraculous." The police believe Myles is the suspect in seven other shootings since October 6.
Detectives traced the vehicles involved in the October 13 and November 7 shootings and discovered that Myles had been driving stolen cars in both instances. They were able to identify Myles through surveillance footage from gas stations and nearby security cameras, matching the suspect seen on video with an old mugshot of Myles.
Following this, police executed a search warrant on Myles' residence and found a cross-body bag containing two stolen firearms. Prosecutors stated that one of the weapons in the bag had been used in several shootings since October 6, including the October 13 and November 7 incidents.
Myles' criminal record is extensive, with previous prison time served for violent felony convictions. In 2019, he was found guilty of first-degree robbery and second-degree robbery after assaulting an 81-year-old woman in a grocery store parking lot. Myles fractured the woman's shoulder and broke two of her teeth before fleeing with her purse. He was sentenced to 57 months in jail and 18 months of community service.
Myles was released early from jail in October 2021, and his supervised probation was terminated by the Department of Corrections in February 2023. His criminal history also includes convictions for third-degree assault and third-degree theft in 2017, second-degree assault in 2015, and third-degree theft in 2022. This case underscores the need for stricter enforcement of laws and more effective rehabilitation programs to prevent recidivism and protect innocent citizens from such violent acts.
