Albert Abbas, an Arab American and Michigan voter, has expressed his community's growing support for former President Donald Trump, citing their belief in his potential to foster global peace.
Abbas anticipates a "seismic shift" in favor of the Republican candidate among his fellow Arab Americans.
According to Fox News, Abbas shared his insights on the appeal of the former president to Arab voters in Michigan, a critical swing state. With the election just around the corner, Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are running neck and neck in the polls. "Arab Americans are flowing in the direction of the Trump campaign because of his, you know, words of tolerance, and love, and ending wars," Abbas stated.
During a campaign stop in Dearborn, Michigan, Trump addressed Abbas and a large gathering of Arab Americans. Abbas, standing alongside Trump, voiced his community's desire for a focus on national interests and enduring peace. He criticized the current administration, stating, "This current administration has failed miserably in all aspects of humanity."
Trump's visit to Dearborn is the first time a candidate has engaged with the city's substantial Arab community during this election cycle. This outreach comes amidst a strained relationship between the Arab community and the Democratic Party, largely due to the Biden-Harris administration's support for Israel during the Gaza conflict.
Michigan boasts one of the highest Arab American populations in the country. With Harris leading by a mere 0.8 percent according to the Real Clear Politics polling average, the Arab American vote could prove pivotal.
Abbas expressed his community's openness to a change in U.S. leadership that could bring peace to the Middle East. "All our families are suffering overseas in Gaza and in Lebanon, and we have to stop the, you know, indiscriminate bombings that are happening and allow justice for everyone, and allow everyone to live with dignity," he said.
Abbas praised Trump's diplomatic approach, stating that he has "extended an olive branch to the Arab community" and "made it a priority to come here and said some very powerful words" to secure their support. He affirmed his community's belief in Trump as their best option for leadership.
Abbas also predicted a "seismic shift" among Arab Americans in Michigan towards voting for Trump. "As Dearborn voters, we want to be heard," he said. "So, the person that wants to listen to us and wants to reciprocate the love and tolerance, then we are going to shift towards that candidate. And that candidate is Donald Trump."
Abbas outlined his community's expectations of Trump should he return to office. "And now our goal is to make sure that, you know, we end the wars everywhere, and were asking Donald Trump, not only to, you know, demand an end to the war, but to demand it the day that he steps in office." He concluded with a call for peace, love, and tolerance worldwide.
