In a shocking turn of events, a suspect has been apprehended following the discovery of the remains of a missing Georgia fitness influencer, who was last seen at a local Walmart.
The fitness star, Minelys Zoe Rodriguez-Ramirez, 25, known as "Mimi" to her friends and family, had amassed a following of over 40,000 on TikTok.
According to Newsweek, Rodriguez-Ramirez had visited a Walmart in Cornelia on October 22 to meet a potential buyer for one of her photos. The last sighting of her was around 9:30 p.m., entering the store. The final text message she sent was to her fianc, Julio Tovor, cryptically stating, "I'm waiting for the brother to pick him up." Her family reported her missing the following day when she failed to return home.
"It didn't make sense," Tovor expressed his confusion. "She doesn't talk like that."
A week after her disappearance, on October 29, her remains were found in a remote area near the Walmart. The discovery was made by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and Habersham County Sheriff's Office. Her vehicle was located just outside the Walmart parking lot, sparking speculation about whether she had moved it herself or if it had been moved posthumously.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations apprehended Angel DeJesus Rivera-Sanchez, 24, in Atlanta on October 28. He was initially arrested on kidnapping charges linked to Rodriguez-Ramirez's disappearance and subsequently transported to the Habersham County Detention Center. The connection between Rivera-Sanchez and the photo transaction at Walmart remains unclear, as does the possibility of a random attack. However, prosecutors are preparing to charge him with murder in connection to Rodriguez-Ramirez's death, as per a recent press release.
When contacted, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation stated, "There are no new updates to report. The investigation is active and ongoing." The remains have since been transported to the GBI Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Rodriguez-Ramirez, a mother to a 9-year-old daughter, had moved to Georgia from Puerto Rico six years prior in pursuit of a job opportunity. She had accepted a position at a manufacturing company, Mount Vernon Mills Inc.
In the wake of this tragic event, Rodriguez-Ramirez's family plans to return her body to her native Puerto Rico for burial. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for the funeral expenses. "We are raising funds for funeral expenses to take her to Puerto Rico and give her a Christian burial on the island where she was born," Carmen Ramirez, her mother, said on GoFundMe. "Thank you in advance. God bless you."
This tragic incident underscores the need for vigilance and safety in our increasingly digital world. As the investigation continues, the hope remains that justice will be served for Rodriguez-Ramirez and her grieving family.
