Maye Musk, mother of billionaire innovator Elon Musk, has expressed her relief at leaving the Democratic Party, which she now perceives as "malicious and dishonest," to join the Republican Party.
During her appearance on FOX Business Channel's "The Bottom Line," Maye Musk shared her political journey, according to The New York Post. Initially, upon becoming a U.S. citizen, she identified as a Democrat, influenced by the portrayal of the party as caring and compassionate. However, her perception began to shift as she noticed the negative portrayal of her son, Elon Musk, by media outlets she once trusted.
"But then, theyd also say Elon is terrible, and I was thinking, why are they lying about Elon?" she questioned. This realization led her to question the credibility of these outlets and their portrayal of the Republican Party. Her departure from the Democratic Party brought her a sense of relief, as she stated, "I just felt such a relief that Im not part of the party thats now malicious and dishonest."
Maye Musk also expressed her concerns about potential voting fraud, a fear that has been echoed by many conservatives. "And my biggest fear is the fraud they are committing at the voting booths," she said.
Elon Musk, who purchased and renamed Twitter as X in 2023, has been a vocal supporter of former President Trump in the current election cycle. His platform, X, has been lauded as a space for free and lawful speech.
During a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden, Elon Musk proposed cutting at least $2 trillion in government waste, a claim that has been met with skepticism. When asked about her son's ambitious proposal, Maye Musk expressed confidence in his abilities. "I think more than $2 trillion. I think he was just being modest. I mean, look what hes done with Twitter and X. Its incredible," she said.
She also praised her son's leadership style, having witnessed it firsthand at SpaceX. "They have a CEO who listens to them or gives them permission to make a change," she said, adding that the same applies to Tesla.
However, Elon Musk's association with Trump and his transformation of X into a platform that some perceive as a pro-Trump echo chamber has drawn criticism. When asked about her concerns for her son in the face of opposition, Maye Musk admitted to her fears. "I always worry about Elon, but dont forget: Biden is on X. Kamala Harris is on Xall the Democrats are on X," she said. "Its horrifying, and as a mother, it terrifies me."
Despite the criticism and fears, the Musks remain steadfast in their conservative beliefs and commitment to free speech, demonstrating the resilience that is often associated with conservative values.
