As the Democratic presidential nominee, Kamala Harris has been artfully sidestepping questions about her knowledge of Joe Biden's cognitive health.
When recently probed by NBC News, she deflected the question back to Biden, suggesting that he should be the one to answer.
The question of Harris's awareness of Biden's cognitive state was a point of contention during the interview, which aired last Tuesday. Anchor Hallie Jackson made multiple attempts to elicit a clear response from Harris, given her close association with Biden as his Vice President.
The conversation took a turn when Jackson highlighted that Harris's nomination was largely due to Biden's poor debate performance and the subsequent fallout. Harris responded, "Well, you'd have to ask him if that's the only reason why.
Harris's persistent denial of any knowledge about Biden's mental health issues is seen by many as an affront to the intelligence of the American public. While she has not openly acknowledged her observations, insiders close to her have begun to reveal some truths. This was inadvertently discovered in a New York Times article discussing the Harris campaign's deliberate avoidance of joint campaign visits with Biden.
According to RedState, my colleague Bob Hoge reported on the issue on Sunday. He referenced an Axios story - refuted by the Biden White House - that suggested the Harris campaign was intentionally distancing itself from Biden due to his perceived political liability.
The Times article, published on Monday, seems to corroborate the essence of the Axios piece. It included an intriguing detail: Harris has recently been discreetly asking those close to Biden about his mental and physical health as the election approaches. How do you think hes doing? she would ask, as reported by two individuals privy to these calls.
This revelation suggests that Harris is indeed aware of Biden's cognitive issues, contrary to her denials. However, she appears to be keeping this knowledge under wraps for unspecified reasons.
It is noteworthy that Harris, despite being the Vice President and having direct access to Biden, chooses to subtly inquire about his wellbeing from White House staff. This suggests that Harris is likely aware of Biden's cognitive state, having been his running mate since the early days. It is almost impossible to work closely with Biden without noticing his cognitive issues. Yet, Harris chose to remain silent about it throughout her tenure with him, as it was politically advantageous for her to do so.
Harris continued this charade through another presidential campaign cycle. By the time the decision was made to run again, it seemed that Biden's handlers were the ones truly orchestrating the campaign, with First Lady Jill Biden playing a prominent role.
This raises significant questions about one of the biggest cover-ups in American political history: what did the Vice President know about the current President's decline, and when did she know it? Furthermore, was she part of the team making decisions during this period?
The fact that Harris has not been held accountable for this scandal in the court of public opinion is deeply frustrating. The hope now is that the American people, expressing their dissatisfaction, will deliver a decisive "you're fired" verdict to the Democratic presidential nominee at the ballot box next Tuesday.
