ANOTHER Small Mid-West Town Struggling With SURGING Immigrant Population...

The small town of Logansport, Indiana, is grappling with an influx of immigrants from Haiti and other nations, a situation that has left local services stretched thin.

This is a scenario that is becoming increasingly common in small towns and cities across the United States.

According to Fox News, local resident Candice Espinoza expressed her concerns, stating, "It's just overrun. We don't have space for everybody, so the housing has been taken over and our schools have been taken over; pretty much the whole town has been taken over." Espinoza's sentiments reflect the strain felt by many in Logansport, where the mayor estimates a population increase of 20%-30% since 2021, largely due to Haitian immigrants. Over 3,000 Haitians have reportedly made Logansport their new home.

The New York Post initially reported a significant increase in the number of Haitian students in local schools, with the figure rising from 14 to 207. However, the school district has refuted claims that this has negatively impacted the quality of education. The school district superintendent stated, "We have a total of 207 Haitian students within our student population, which makes up about 5% of our student population. I have not had any complaints of student needs not being met due to services to our English learners population."

Espinoza, however, contradicts this statement, arguing that parents have indeed voiced their concerns. She shared her personal experience, saying, "I have a child that I help take care of that she's dyslexic, and she does not get the help she needs. They are holding her back because they're trying to specialize with these kids that need more English, and they don't know English, so it's harder."

The impact of the Haitian migration extends beyond the school system. Some residents have reported feeling uncomfortable and unsafe due to the behavior of some of the new arrivals. One woman recounted an incident where male Haitian migrants would "stop in front of our porch and just stop and stare. They don't say a word. They just stare. It's unnerving."

The local Health Department has also reported an increase in cases of diseases such as tuberculosis and HIV. Despite these challenges, some residents maintain a compassionate stance, with one stating, "We're all for compassion. But you can't do that at the expense of everyone else either. You got to have compassion for those who are here."

Mayor Chris Martin is now seeking assistance from state and federal governments to help manage the increased demand for city services. He expressed his frustration, saying, "How do you think us as leaders in this small community feel knowing that not once were we alerted this was going to happen?"

Logansport's situation mirrors that of other small U.S. towns like Springfield, Ohio, Charleroi, Pa., and Lockland, Ohio, which have also struggled with an influx of immigrants. Larger cities like New York City and Chicago are also feeling the pressure of increased immigration. This issue is expected to be a key factor in the 2024 election, with polls indicating former President Trump holds an advantage over Vice President Harris on this matter.
