Doug Emhoff, the Second Gentleman of the United States and husband to Vice President Kamala Harris, is facing allegations of physically assaulting his former girlfriend at a high-profile gala in 2012, according to a recent report.
As reported by The New York Post, the incident allegedly took place at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2012. Emhoff, then 59, is accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend, a prominent New York attorney, in the face with such force that she spun around while waiting in a valet line after the event. This account was provided by three anonymous friends of the woman, who relayed the information to the Daily Mail.
The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly called one of the friends in tears from her taxi immediately following the incident. Another friend claimed that the woman, referred to as Jane, had been in a relationship with Emhoff for around three months when the incident occurred and had confided in her about it.
A third individual, an acquaintance of Jane, alleged that she was informed about the incident in 2018. This was around the time when then-Senator Harris was making headlines for her rigorous questioning of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh over sexual assault allegations.
The three sources, who wished to remain anonymous due to fears of retaliation from Emhoff, provided a series of photos of Emhoff with the woman from 2012 and other documents that the Daily Mail claimed substantiated some aspects of the incident.
The woman in question declined to comment on the story. The Harris campaign has yet to issue a statement on the report. This incident, if true, raises serious questions about the character of the Second Gentleman and could potentially have significant political implications.
