Nadya Suleman, the woman who gained notoriety as "Octomom" after giving birth to octuplets in 2009, has recently announced that she has become a grandmother.
The 49-year-old, infamous for her in-vitro fertilization (IVF) conception of octuplets, shared the news of her family's expansion on Instagram.
According to The New York Post, Suleman posted a picture of her newborn granddaughter's foot peeking out from a blanket, accompanied by a heartfelt message. "Thank you my son and my lovely daughter in law for giving us this beautiful gift!" Suleman wrote, expressing her joy and gratitude. "We are so blessed that she is a new addition to our family!" She further expressed her love for the baby girl and her anticipation to watch her grow.
The post revealed that the new addition to the family was born on August 30. Suleman, who once worked in the adult film industry, is a mother to 14 children. Her brood includes the famous octuplets: Jonah, Nariyah, Josiah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Noah, Jeremiah, and Makai, as well as six other children: Amerah, Calyssa, Elijah, Jonah, Joshua, and Aidan.
Suleman's journey to motherhood began in 2001, shortly after her separation from her ex-husband, Marcos Gutierrez. At the age of 21, she welcomed her first son, Elijah, after saving her own money to cover $10,000 in IVF fees. She continued to expand her family through IVF, welcoming five more children, including a set of fraternal twins, over the next few years.
In 2008, Dr. Michael Kamrava, who later lost his medical license and relocated out of the United States, implanted 12 embryos into Suleman. This procedure resulted in the birth of eight babies, earning Suleman a Guinness World Record for the most children to survive a single birth. She delivered her octuplets via cesarean section on January 26, 2009.
Suleman's recent social media posts suggest that her son Joshua, who just turned 21, is the father of her new granddaughter. In a birthday tribute to Joshua, she praised his qualities and hinted at his new role as a father. "You are smart, funny, hard working, loyal, humble, and now a devoted husband and soon to be father," she wrote.
Despite the challenges and controversies that have marked her life, Suleman has shown resilience and dedication to her family. She celebrated her octuplets' 15th birthday earlier this year with a heartfelt Instagram post, expressing her pride in their growth and development.
Today, Suleman has distanced herself from her "Octomom" persona and has pursued a career in child development. She holds a BA in the field and works as a counselor. "When I walked, or shall I say ran away, from my Octomom persona, I went right back into my healthy lifestyle that Ive always had my whole life," she stated in a 2019 interview with ITV. This latest chapter in her life as a grandmother further underscores her commitment to family and her journey of personal growth.
