In a unique approach to democracy, MoveOn, a progressive public policy advocacy group, is launching a get-out-the-vote initiative in swing states across the United States.
The campaign, dubbed "Scoop the Vote," features ice cream flavors inspired by Vice President Kamala Harris. The group has partnered with renowned progressive ice cream makers Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield of Vermont-based Ben & Jerry's to create these exclusive flavors.
According to The Post Millennial, the flavors include Kamala's Coconut Jubilee, Unburdened by What has Vanilla Bean, Inauguration Celebration Birthday Cake, Fight for Our Rights Sorbet, and MoveOn Mobilizer Milk Chocolate. The Unburdened by What has Vanilla Bean flavor, in particular, seems to be a subtle critique of America's alleged historically racist past.
MoveOn asserts that the ice cream will be distributed free of charge, with special guests present to engage voters. This strategy seems to be inspired by President Joe Biden's well-documented love for ice cream, as evidenced by his numerous photo opportunities with a cone in hand.
In a statement promoting their events, MoveOn said, "Coming together as a country to elect Kamala Harris and Democrats down the ballot to protect our freedoms and futures. Were taking an ice cream truck on tour, rolling through swing areas handing out free ice cream to engage people around voting and the issues we care about. At each stop, well help you make a plan to vote on November 5, show you how you can triple your vote, and enjoy some free sweet treats together."
The group further emphasized the need to resist those who seek to limit freedoms and to strive for an America where everyone can thrive. They expressed their determination to defeat MAGA Republicans in the upcoming November elections, using ice cream as a celebratory symbol along the way.
However, despite their commitment to creating an inclusive America, MoveOn's promotional materials for Scoop the Vote contain misleading statements about those they aim to defeat. They warn against a return to an unspecified past and accuse Project 2025 and MAGA Republicans of seeking to impose their way of life on all Americans, controlling personal freedoms and erasing diversity.
The group also alleges that these Republicans are responsible for tax cuts for the wealthy and attacks on reproductive rights, among other things. They urge the public to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to protect these rights and futures.
However, it's worth noting that Project 2025 has no known affiliation with Donald Trump or his policies. Trump has previously stated that he would require insurance companies to cover IVF and would not implement a federal abortion ban. Furthermore, there have been no book bans under his administration, although parents in Florida can flag books in school libraries they deem inappropriate. Trump's administration also included the first openly gay cabinet member, Ric Grenell.
