In a move that has raised eyebrows, Green Party leader and presidential hopeful Dr. Jill Stein has selected Bilal (Butch) Ware as her running mate.
Ware, an associate professor at the University of California-Santa Barbara, has a history of sharing pro-Hamas propaganda and has referred to Israel as a white supremacist Zionist project that should be stabbed in the heart.
According to The Post Millennial, Dr. Stein announced her choice of Ware as her vice-presidential candidate in a Sunday post. She praised his ability to overcome systemic injustice, his deep understanding of history and people's movements, and his commitment to building a sustainable, just, and peaceful world. "Im honored and thrilled to welcome Butch Ware as my running mate and the Vice President we need at this moment in history," Stein said. She further described their alliance as "a historic ticket bringing together a Jewish woman and Black Muslim man against genocide, endless war, climate collapse, and rampant injustice."
However, Ware's controversial views have been a cause for concern. Following the October 7 attacks last year, he shared a video of a man urging Hamas to kill more Jews in Israel. Ware defended Hamas's terrorist activities, arguing that they were "fighting for their freedom." He even compared the organization to Nelson Mandela.
In a discussion titled "Sunnah of Struggle - Black and Palestinian Liberation from Islamic Perspective," Ware referred to Israel as "the beast" that should be "stabbed in the heart. He also drew parallels between the George Floyd protests and pro-Palestinian demonstrations during the Israel-Hamas War. These comments were made in October 2023 during a speech at a mosque near the university where he teaches African studies.
Ware's Instagram account is replete with posts about Israel's alleged colonialism and what he perceives as the "complicity" of black Americans in supporting the country. He expressed disappointment in black Americans who support Israel, accusing them of being complicit in the dehumanizing slander against Palestinian resistors.
While Dr. Stein may view her running mate as an ideal candidate, Ware's controversial views and statements could potentially alienate voters who value traditional values, limited government, individual freedom, and free-market economics.
