In a recent development, several U.S. personnel have been wounded in a suspected rocket attack on Al Asad airbase in Iraq.
This information was disclosed by three U.S. officials to Reuters. The attack, which took place on a Monday, involved the firing of two Katyusha rockets at the base located in western Iraq, as per security sources.
According to The Post Millennial, the officials cited preliminary information about the attack, which could potentially change. One official noted, "Base personnel are conducting a post-attack damage assessment." This incident has escalated concerns about regional tensions, particularly in light of the recent assassinations of leaders from the Hamas and Hezbollah terrorist groups.
Jack Posobiec, a senior editor at Human Events, reported that between five to six Americans were injured, with several undergoing surgery. Iran, a known supporter of both Hamas and Hezbollah, has pledged to retaliate against these assassinations. In anticipation of a possible attack from Iran on Israel, the Pentagon has dispatched reinforcements to the region. Reports suggest that an Iranian attack on Israel is imminent, further heightening tensions that have been escalating since the war between Hamas and Israel commenced on October 7 last year.
In a related event last week, U.S. Central Command forces successfully destroyed an Iranian-backed Houthi missile and its launcher in Yemen. "It was determined these weapons presented an imminent threat to U.S. and coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region. These actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure," Central Command stated.
The situation has been further complicated as Iranian-backed Iraqi groups have begun launching attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria, as reported by Stars and Stripes. This series of events underscores the volatile nature of the region and the ongoing challenges faced by US forces.
