In a surprising turn of events, Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a relatively unknown figure in her vice-presidential selection process, to be her running mate for the Democratic presidential nomination.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in Walz's political career.
According to The New York Post, Walz, a native of rural Nebraska, has a diverse background that includes a stint as an educator both domestically and internationally, as well as a 24-year tenure in the Army National Guard. The 60-year-old governor's foray into politics didn't occur until 2006, when he clinched his first victory in a House of Representatives election. His political journey saw him serving six terms in Congress, demonstrating his commitment to public service and conservative values.
Walz's personal life is as rich as his professional one. He met his wife, Gwen Whipple, while they were both teaching at Mankato West High School in Minnesota. In addition to their shared passion for education, Walz also took on the role of a football coach, further ingraining himself in the local community. His dedication to his home state was rewarded when he was elected as governor in 2022.
