The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has made a significant announcement, indicating that Iran has successfully infiltrated international markets with its nuclear products and services.
This development underscores a notable advancement in Iran's nuclear technology capabilities, despite the ongoing international sanctions it faces.
As reported by Newsweek, the announcement was made during an interview with Khamenei.ir, where the head of the AEOI, Mohammad Eslami, underscored Iran's strides in breaking the nuclear technology monopoly. Eslami highlighted Iran's progress in manufacturing and exporting nuclear goods, such as heavy water and radiopharmaceuticals, which have now found their way into the global market.
This development comes amidst the persisting tensions surrounding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the international scrutiny of Iran's nuclear program. Iran Watch has reported that Iran has amassed a significant stockpile of highly enriched uranium, enough to manufacture several nuclear bombs.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also reported that Iran now possesses many of the technical components necessary for nuclear weapons, including advanced centrifuges and enriched uranium at near-weapons-grade levels. These nuclear advancements are unfolding amidst ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, further intensifying regional tensions.
The Israel-Hamas war, which erupted on October 7, 2023, has significantly escalated regional tensions. Iran's alleged support for Hamas further complicates the geopolitical landscape, with Hamas leaders repeatedly expressing gratitude to Iran for its military and financial support in their fight against Israel.
Furthermore, Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have initiated a series of attacks on shipping through the Red Sea corridor, which the U.S. Navy has described as the most intense combat since World War II.
In his interview with the Office for the Preservation and Publication of the works of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Eslami revealed that various countries have been purchasing Iranian heavy water and receiving services from Iranian specialists.
"Our capabilities in nuclear technology have enabled us to provide services and products that are now present in global markets," Eslami stated. He further added, "Given our capacity and production potential, we can export radiopharmaceuticals to all parts of the world."
Eslami also addressed the tensions surrounding the JCPOA, stating, "Iran has the legal right to scale back on JCPOA commitments when other parties violate the pact." This statement likely refers to the U.S's withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2018.
Eslami praised the Strategic Action Law for the Removal of Sanctions, stating that, "This law has been effective and useful, bringing us closer to our goals." He also stated that this law has provided a response to what he terms as "an enemy that is unilaterally, illegally, and contrary to international norms trying to stop or restrict Iran's nuclear industry," according to the Tehran Times.
As the situation continues to unfold, questions about Iran's nuclear program and its implications for global security remain. The world watches as Iran continues to make strides in its nuclear capabilities, despite international sanctions and scrutiny.
